Tips for taking care of partial dentures.
A well-made partial denture should feel secure and look natural. Daily care keeps the prosthesis clean, protects the remaining teeth that support it, and helps the fit last as your mouth changes.

Clean the partial every day
Rinse the partial after meals to remove food. At night, brush it with a soft brush and a non-abrasive denture cleanser — not regular toothpaste, which can scratch acrylic.
If the framework includes metal, avoid household bleach. Bleach can corrode clasps and weaken the fit. Use a cleanser labeled safe for partial dentures with metal.
Give the gums a rest
Remove a conventional partial while you sleep unless Dr. Renk has given you a different instruction. Tissue needs time without coverage so it can stay healthy, and overnight soaking helps keep the prosthesis clean.
Brush and floss the remaining natural teeth and the gums under the partial. The clasps and rests depend on those teeth. Decay or gum inflammation around an abutment tooth is one of the most common reasons a partial stops fitting well.
Protect the fit
Do not adjust clasps or grind the acrylic yourself. A small bend can change how force is shared across the remaining teeth. If the partial rocks, rubs, or feels loose, we can reline or adjust it in the office.
Bring the partial to routine visits. Bone and gum change over time. Catching a loose fit early is easier than repairing a broken clasp or a damaged abutment tooth.
What patients ask about this.
Can I use regular toothpaste on a partial denture?
No. Most toothpastes are too abrasive for acrylic. Use a denture cleanser and a soft brush made for prostheses.
Should I sleep in my partial denture?
Most patients should remove a conventional partial at night so the tissue can rest and the prosthesis can soak. Follow the plan Dr. Renk gives you for your specific design.
When should a partial be relined or remade?
When it rocks, rubs, or no longer stays in place during eating or speaking. Relines restore contact with changed tissue. A new partial is needed when teeth, wear, or the design itself have changed too much.
