Dental bridges can be helpful — when they are the right tool.

A bridge can be a good choice when the neighboring teeth already need crowns, when an implant is not possible, or when a patient wants a fixed replacement without surgery. The abutments must be strong enough to carry the extra load.

Span length matters. A long bridge on weakened teeth is a common reason we see failed dentistry. Prosthodontic planning looks at how forces travel through the span, not only whether the gap can be filled.

If the neighboring teeth are healthy, preparing them for a bridge removes enamel they do not otherwise need to lose. An implant crown leaves those teeth alone. Surgical placement, when implants are chosen, is coordinated with a surgeon; we design and deliver the restoration.

Failed bridges — open margins, decay under old crowns, a pontic that never cleaned well — often need the old work removed and a new plan, sometimes with implants, sometimes with a redesigned bridge.

You cannot floss between a pontic and the gums the way you floss two natural teeth. Threaders, superfloss, or a water flosser are part of living with a bridge. If that hygiene is unrealistic, a different replacement may serve you better.
