The first days
Speech often feels different for a short time. Reading aloud and speaking slowly helps the tongue find the new tooth positions. Mild tenderness around implants or under a new prosthesis is common; sharp pain, looseness, or a bite that hits on one side is not — call the office.
Start with softer foods cut into small pieces. Chew on both sides. Hard, sticky, or very chewy foods can wait until Dr. Renk has confirmed the bite and the attachments feel secure.
Hygiene from day one
Implant-supported restorations still need daily cleaning. Overdentures come out so you can clean the attachments and the gums. Fixed hybrids need specific brushes, floss threaders, or a water flosser as instructed — plaque around implants is as serious as plaque around teeth.
Skip abrasive pastes and homemade soaks. Use the cleanser and tools we recommend for your design.
Follow-up is part of the treatment
Attachments wear. A screw can loosen. The bite can change as you use the prosthesis. Adjustment visits are expected, not a sign that something failed. Bring questions about chewing, speech, or cleaning — small changes early prevent sore spots later.

How long does it take to adjust to implant dentures?
Many patients feel more natural within a few weeks. Full comfort with chewing and speech varies. Your follow-up visits are when we refine the bite and attachments.
Can I sleep in a permanent denture?
Fixed hybrids often stay in unless we ask you to have them removed in the office. Removable overdentures are usually taken out at night. Follow the instructions for your specific prosthesis.
What if the bite feels high or uneven?
