Dentures do not fail overnight. The jaw changes, acrylic wears, and a prosthesis that once felt fine starts to slip or sore. These five signs mean it is time for a reline, a rebase, or a new denture — not more adhesive.

1. The denture slips when you talk or chew
Movement during speech or meals means the base no longer matches the ridge. A reline can restore contact if the teeth and bite are still sound. If the teeth are worn flat or the denture has been patched for years, a new prosthesis is usually the more honest plan.
2. Sore spots that do not resolve
A new sore after a recent adjustment should be checked. Chronic sores in the same place often mean the denture rocks or the bite is heavy on one side. Ignoring them can inflame the tissue and make the next denture harder to wear.
3. Worn teeth or a collapsed face
Denture teeth wear down. When they do, the bite closes, the lips and cheeks lose support, and the jaw joints work from a different position. Replacing worn teeth — or the whole denture — restores vertical support, not just a “whiter smile.”
4. Stains, odor, or a porous surface that will not clean
Old acrylic absorbs stain and odor. Deep scratches from toothpaste or dropped dentures hold plaque. If overnight cleaning no longer freshens the prosthesis, the material itself may be due for replacement.
5. Years have passed without a remake
There is no single calendar date, but many conventional dentures need a reline or replacement every several years as bone remodels. If you cannot remember the last time the denture was evaluated on the tissue, start there.

Is a reline enough, or do I need new dentures?
A reline adds material so the base meets the current gums. It cannot fix worn teeth, a broken design, or a bite that has closed. We will tell you which problem you actually have.
Can implants make an old denture stable?
Sometimes an existing denture can be adapted as a temporary while implants heal. The final implant prosthesis is usually new and designed for those implant positions.
How quickly can a replacement be made?
